Lydian Lion - fractional silver coin

The worlds first coin - the Lydian Lion, 600BC made of Gold + Silver alloy.

Features a lion's head on the front and a paw print on the reverse :

There is a new kid on the block making gold and silver coins (including fractional silver down to 1/4 oz) using the same design :

Cute having the date as 600BC - 2009AD ... just shows that Gold (and Silver) really is Money after all.

Particularly interesting is this part :
Quote:

“This is the first fractional silver coin to arrive in modern times . . . and what a beauty! This 0.25 troy ounce anticipates a dramatic increase in the price of silver as myself and others have predicted over the ensuing years."
Be interesting to see how it goes. Its a nice coin anyway in 1 Oz, with a great theme ... but I wonder what the real demand is like for fractional silver coins.

that's an interesting color. i experimented a little and took it into Photoshop and sampled the color of the brighter part of the image. e.g. above the lion's eye.
R 235
G 246
B 232

slightly green ! of course that might have been reflected light.

a little further up the head image, where it's darker but not as dark as in the mouth, the color is
R 206
G 182
B 146

which is typical of a tan color - lots of red, a little less green, a lot less blue.

i'm an engineer, i'm paid to be anal-retentive ! :23_30_104:

I have a few, they're nice and based out of Ann Arbor MI not too far from me.

If you want to order just a couple and don't mind the premiums you can get em from joyce.
